The Eternal Love Story of Selene and Endymion.
Selene, the eternally beautiful goddess of the Moon in Greek mythology is well known for her great love story with the beautiful mortal Endymion.
Endymion was a handsome Aeolian shepherd-prince in Elis.
One day, Selene was riding her white horse in the sky and saw Endymion who was taking a nap among all his sheep.
Selene fell in love with him at first sight, but she was anxious that their love that would not be eternal
because she was immortal, and he wasn’t.
So she asked Zeus to grant him eternal sleep so that he would never grow old or die and she could love him forever.
Zeus granted her wish and she was able to see him every night freely.
He laid in a cave on Mount Latmus in Karia
where his lunar lover would visit him each night forever.
